Since 1984, West Coast Nurseries has built a trusted reputation as a premier wholesaler of high-quality interior plants. Proudly owned and operated by the Evans family, our team is committed to carrying forward a legacy defined by exceptional quality, thoughtful care, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
A key part of that legacy is our experienced, long-tenured team—people our customers know and trust. This includes leaders like Darrell Ades, our General Manager, who has dedicated his entire career to the plantscaping industry and has been with West Coast Nurseries for over a decade. It also includes our locally based sales team members, Stefanie and David, who are often the familiar voices and faces our customers connect with day to day. Alongside them, we are proud of our dedicated production and operations team—the hands-on experts who tend to our plants from greenhouse through delivery. We are deeply grateful for such an outstanding team whose attention to detail and customer-focus are the cornerstone of the West Coast Nurseries experience.
That same commitment to excellence is also reflected in our growing operations on the Big Island of Hawaii. Hawaii’s ideal conditions—stable temperatures, natural humidity, and abundant rainfall—allow us to cultivate exceptional plants while minimizing the high utility demands of traditional greenhouse production. Across our Hawaiian properties, we strategically combine shade structures, greenhouses, and open growing areas to optimize plant health, resilience, and long-term performance.
To ensure consistency and quality at every stage, we grow all of our plants in pots on elevated benches using a proprietary soil blend of Canadian peat moss and Hawaiian cinder. Our carefully engineered mix provides the ideal balance of moisture retention and aeration, supporting strong and healthy root development that customers notice and can’t find anywhere else.
Once mature, each plant is carefully prepared, packaged, and shipped from Hilo, Hawaii to our nursery in San Marcos, California. There, our team allows for proper acclimation and conducts thorough quality inspections to ensure every plant meets our standards before being distributed to the interior plantscape industry.
With dedicated teams in both Hawaii and California working in close coordination, we are able to maintain consistency, and an uncompromising level of quality. Above all, our commitment is simple: to deliver exceptional plants with the same care, intention, and pride that have defined West Coast Nurseries since the very beginning.
As we strive for perfection we also have to dodge large tropical storms, hurricanes, some occasional lava flow, dock strikes, etc — but we love what we do and plan on doing it for many, many more years to come!
